The AT program is a program to help students become engaged in the classroom and learn not only how to do math, but more importantly to understand the reasoning behind the answers they receive when they solve problems. AT uses staff development and unique methodology to ensure that students will experience hands on learning and engagement in math class, veering away from the traditional classroom setting that can at times be full of memorized worksheets and lectures.

The program is taught through three books entitled Algebraic Thinking Foundations, Algebraic Thinking Part I, and Algebraic Thinking Part II.  Resources for each of these books are available on the website (www.algebraicthinking.com).  AT also incorporates manipulatives such as: fractions strips, two color counters and metric cubes to teach the lessons in each of these books.

Each AT teacher has completed thirty hours of training in the program, and is closely monitored to ensure that the AT classes are staying on track and understanding concepts taught. This ensures that students will gain the maximum benefits that the AT program has to offer.

The AT website allows parents to stay involved with their children and what they are learning each day at school. Video clips on daily lessons, lesson notes, and daily homework assignments are available for extended instruction and guidance on homework and concepts outside of the classroom.
